Applet, carjacking, hoodie and netiquette are neologisms–words that are new to the English language. Oddly enough, the word newfangled is a really old word in English. It comes from two Middle English words, newe, meaning "new," and fangel, which itself comes from an Old English word, fangen, meaning "taken."
