Applet, carjacking, hoodie and netiquette are neologisms–words that are new to the English language. You can find other great neologisms in the addenda section of Webster's Third New International Dictionary (copyright 2002, Merriam-Webster). Oddly enough, the word newfangled is a really old word in English. It comes from two Middle English words, newe, meaning "new," and fangel, which itself comes from an Old English word, fangen, meaning "taken."
